SUMMARY:An evening with Carey Gillam\, the Truth Behind Monsanto and Roundup
DESCRIPTION:Science reporter Carey Gillam\, discusses The Monsanto Papers\, a tale of deadly secrets\, corruption and one man’s search for justice.\n\n\nWHE is pleased to present An Evening with Carey Gillam. Join us for a lively presentation with journalist and author Carey Gillam as she discusses her book\, The Monsanto Papers. \nThe Monsanto Papers is the inside story of Lee Johnson’s landmark lawsuit against Monsanto. For Lee\, the case was a race against the clock\, with doctors predicting he wouldn’t survive long enough to take the witness stand. \nFor the public at large\, the lawsuit presented a question of corporate accountability. With enough money and influence\, could a company endanger its customers\, hide evidence\, manipulate regulators\, and get away with it all—for decades? You will be astounded by the depth of corruption uncovered\, captivated by the shocking twists\, and moved by Lee’s quiet determination to see justice served. \n“…the sordid story of how chemical giant Monsanto worked for decades to suppress\, conceal and distort evidence of the health hazards of glyphosate\, the world’s most widely used herbicide. Told by seasoned science journalist Carey Gillam\, The Monsanto Papers blends science and human tragedy with courtroom drama in the style of John Grisham. It is a story of corporate malfeasance on a grand scale – a chilling revelation of the chemical industry’s greed\, arrogance and reckless disregard for human life and the health of our planet. It is a must read.” \nPHIL LANDRIGAN\, Founding director of Boston College’s Global Public Health Program \n\n\nPresenting Sponsor\n\n\n\nSponsors

SUMMARY:Children of the Vine Film Screening - FREE
DESCRIPTION:CHILDREN OF THE VINE is a deeply unsettling investigation into the controversial herbicide Roundup and its impact on public health.\n\n\nCHILDREN OF THE VINE is a deeply unsettling investigation into the controversial herbicide Roundup and its impact on public health. With 3.6 billion pounds of Roundup sprayed annually on crops grown in the U.S.\, CHILDREN OF THE VINE couldn’t be more timely. At the center of this controversy is glyphosate\, the primary active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup. \n\nHow did glyphosate become so pervasive that it’s in our air\, water\, soil\, food and routinely found in our bodies?\nAnd why are countries banning Roundup while U.S. farmers use more of it than any other country in the world?\n\nFrom America’s heartland in Lone Jack\, Missouri to Bakersfield\, California\, award winning filmmaker Brian Lilla speaks with both farmers who depend on Roundup and those who are paying the ultimate price for spraying it. \nIn the end\, CHILDREN OF THE VINE reveals a growing movement of organic\, biodynamic and regenerative land management practices that are positively affecting agriculture and the environment. \nCo-sponsors: University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Human and Environmental Equity Research\, Patagonia\, Black Environmental Coalition \nDonations Welcome \nThis event is free but you can support WHE’s work creating healthy spaces for children to live\, learn and thrive.
