She received her bachelor’s in secondary education with a concentration in biology from Cedar Crest College and her Master’s in Public Health from Des Moines University. Her previous careers have been centered on education and mental health. According to Karen, “My program is special to me as I now live in Pittsburgh and my husband suffers from uncontrolled asthma. I look forward to making changes to support all children in terms of asthma control and indoor air quality. I’m from the northeast and I enjoy kayaking, reading, and caring for my houseplants. I love going to school and cannot wait to start my next academic journey.”
