Participation in the Healthy Schools Recognition Program (HSRP) provides valuable visibility, resources, and support to enhance sustainability, well-being, and community pride. HSRP also helps schools achieve recognition through the PA Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools Program.
This initiative supports schools creating healthier, more sustainable environments. Schools participating in HSRP activities will be acknowledged for their leadership and commitment to fostering a positive learning space.
Everyone participating in one or more of the activities listed on the Healthy Schools Report Card will be distinguished as a participant. Download the Report Card (a fillable PDF) and complete it on your computer. Once completed, upload the Report Card and any supplemental documents using the form below.
A student version of the Report Card is now available. Completion of the student workbook will add 10 additional points to an applicant’s submission.
Applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis until April 22nd.
Schools must be ready to show that the activity has been completed before the deadline.
Open to all public and private K-12 schools and school districts in western and central Pennsylvania.
Every school will receive a Healthy School Recognition Program certificate of participation and a decal to display in their school. Healthy Schools PA will keep a record of every school’s report card, so that each year the school may work toward completion of additional activities and perhaps reach a higher designation.
The application needs to include a cover sheet signed by the principal, the completed report card, a summary of the Green and Healthy School activities (not to exceed four pages), and photo files. These photos will be used for public relations purposes in various media for the Healthy Schools Recognition Program.
Interested in applying to the program? Download and complete the report card checklist and upload the completed document(s) using the below form.

Join us on June 9th, at the Pittsburgh Golf Club. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Jenny Kay, research scientist at the Silent Spring Institute who identified 921 chemicals that may promote breast cancer development, ninety percent of them in products and environments people encounter every day.
Dr. Kay has spent her career asking a question that affects all of us: what’s in our environment — and what is it doing to our bodies?
We will also honor our 2026 Changemaker Impact Awardees, presenting the Healthy Homes Award, Healthy Schools Award, Healthy Early Learning Award, and Public Health Champion Award.
We cannot wait to celebrate these critical partners who are advancing community health across Pennsylvania.
