Leanna Bird is Executive Director of Westmoreland Land Trust, where she leads land conservation and stewardship initiatives in Westmoreland County alongside her team. She brings over 10 years of cross-sector nonprofit management experience in conservation and community health, advancing programs and policies that strengthen environmental and population well-being. Leanna began her career with the Student Conservation Association—a national nonprofit dedicated to building the next generation of conservation leaders—coordinating youth conservation programs across parks in underserved communities in Allegheny County.
She later worked for the Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority, where she developed trail programs, marketing initiatives, and community partnerships that expanded conservation efforts in the region. Prior to joining the Land Trust, she worked at Allegheny Health Network’s Center for Inclusion Health, where she secured public and private funding for low-barrier healthcare programs that reach underserved communities and led state-level policy efforts to advance sustainable reimbursement of community health workers.
Leanna’s career reflects a commitment to policies that strengthen both environmental and community health, recognizing the connection between conserved landscapes, equitable access to nature, and population health. She holds a Master of Public Policy and Management and a Master of Arts in Teaching – both from the University of Pittsburgh – and previously served on the boards for the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy, Cambria County Library System, and Cambria County Conservation and Recreation Authority.
