Dr. Howarth is the Deputy Director of the NIEHS funded Philadelphia Regional Center for Children’s Environmental Health, directing programs aimed at improving children’s environmental health. She also directs Community Engagement at the Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. After training as an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer with the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Howarth has practiced clinical occupational and environmental medicine for more than 25 years.
As a faculty member at the Perelman School of Medicine since 1995, Dr. Howarth’s work focuses on assessing and communicating environmental risk and putting science to work on community problems. Dr. Howarth is a Senior Fellow in the Center for Public Health at Penn and Chair of the Environmental Health Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
