Environmental Health Policy

Championing Change: Our Fight for Environmental Health and Justice
WHE is dedicated to advancing policies that protect the health of our communities. Our environmental health policy efforts focus on reducing harmful exposures, improving air and water quality, and addressing environmental injustices that disproportionately affect women, children, and vulnerable populations.

Through education, advocacy, and partnership, we work to shape policy solutions that create safer, healthier environments for everyone. Join us in advocating for a future where environmental health is a right, not a privilege.

Policy Initiatives

As new scientific evidence emerges, we continually adapt our policy focus to address the most urgent threats to environmental health. Right now, we are championing several key initiatives aimed at improving air quality, water safety, and reducing exposure to harmful toxins.

Get Involved

There are many ways to take action for a healthy environment. You can find opportunities to get involved with the following initiatives that are focused on specific environmental exposures or health concerns.

Policy Wins

Women for a Healthy Environment has been successful in its various policy priorities. In 2024 WHE worked with collaborators across the Southwestern PA region, including the Get the Lead Out public awareness campaign and the Lead Safe Allegheny Coalition to advocate for the creation of a housing advisory committee within the Allegheny County Health Department.

Coalition Building

Women for a Healthy Environment (WHE) connects families with the resources they need to tackle environmental challenges. By working alongside dozens of partners, we protect communities—especially children—from the harmful effects of toxins in homes, schools, and early learning centers.
