Action Alert

Subject: SB 760 is stalled and needs committee action

Hi Community member,

SB 760 has been stalled in committee, (legislation to test and mitigate for radon in PA schools); meanwhile, its sister bill, HB 289, has been amended to include funding and has been voted out of committee. The Senate is lagging behind and risking our student’s health. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among never smokers.

Action Alert

Subject: Tell your senator to move SB 760

SB 760, Pennsylvania’s bill to require radon testing in schools, has been stalled in committee. Meanwhile, the House version, HB 289, has been amended to include mitigation funding and has already passed out of committee.

The Senate is lagging, and every day that passes is another day children are sitting in untested school buildings. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among never smokers. It can’t be seen or smelled, and most Pennsylvania schools have never been tested for it.

Sending a message to your senator takes less than a minute. Click the link below, enter your address, and a message will go directly to your senator urging them to schedule SB 760 for a vote.

Wed 5/6 – Social 1:

Radon is a radioactive gas you can’t see, smell, or taste. It’s also the leading cause of lung cancer among people who have never smoked. Pennsylvania schools are full of it, and most have never been tested. SB 760 would change that. Change a kid’s life and sign the petition.

Fri 5/8 – Social 2

Most of Pennsylvania sits in Zone 1 — the EPA’s highest risk category for radon. Every child in this state deserves to go to school in a building that’s been tested, regardless of where they live. SB 760 would require radon testing in Pennsylvania schools. Committee leaders can move it forward. Tell them to act.

People across Pennsylvania are speaking up for radon testing in school buildings. Now committee leaders need to schedule action on SB 760.

Fri 5/15 – Social 4

About 21,000 people die from radon-related lung cancer every year in the US. It’s preventable. Testing finds it. Mitigation fixes it. Pennsylvania’s SB 760 would require radon testing in schools so families know the air their children are breathing is safe. Tell lawmakers to move the bill.
